Today, we picked up Olga from the train station, and then went back to the apartment. After some catching up, we decided to walk around the city. We perused through the new Gucci and Ralph Lauren collections and then made our way to a mall. There we looked in the Furla, Nina Ricci, and Villeroy and Boch boutiques. We looked at some other stuff, but I can’t remember what else we looked at. Our feet got tired so we decided to get some martinis downstairs before we continued shopping at Burberry, Escada and Sonia Rykiel. (Why don’t they have drunk shopping in America? People would buy so much more) Then we left, but did spot a security guard with a machine gun (Olga says it was just chillin’ there) as we descended. We then made it around a couple of blocks, then stopped by for coffee and russian donuts.
Afterwards I went and saw Sigur Ros, and have gained much appreciation for russian concert hall sound engineers as the acoustics were amazing, and so were my seats. Pictures and video will come later. The only thing that annoyed me was the fact that someone’s body guards kept talking during the first few songs. I was present at the first Russian Sigur Ros concert. Yeah, be jealous. Apart from the beautiful lights, Russian Indie kids tripping on acid were also quite entertaining. The woman sitting next to me was rolling her own cigarettes before the show while the people in front of me were having a heated debate about religion based on a controversial book that just came out.
Tomorrow we are going to Peterhoff to see what the Russians built in an attempt to outdo Versailles. The next day we are gong to the Russian Museum of Art, followed by the Hermitage, and on Friday we are seeing a ballet. Saturday we are going to the summer house to frolick in the woods and pick mushrooms.
Please do not be surprised if I decide to never return to the 18th best place to live in America.
Love,
Stacey (and Olga)

nashiko:
